The Spruce Art Residency is an arts residency designed to enable artists to create freely, to provide valuable opportunities to further their career, and to enhance the community’s cultural landscape. Artists in Residence are provided with a space for a self-guided residency stay, encouraged to work on new or continuing work, share it through artist talk and / or an exhibition.
The Spruce Art Residency invites artists from all disciplines (including writers, composers, visual artists, musicians, theatre artists, video, multi-disciplinary, social practice and performance artists) to apply for a self directed residency. Ranging 1 - 8 weeks in duration, this residency is open to professional artists, musicians, and writers of any age and stage in their career. Since its founding in 2019, Spruce Art Residency’s primary aim is to provide artists with dedicated time for creative work. The residency session also offers opportunities for a solo exhibition, weekly critiques with fellow artists, community workshops, and artist talks.
The name “Spruce” is inspired by Indiana County’s tradition of being the Christmas Tree Capitol of the World.
